In Pigeon Ascent, take care of your own pigeon as they fight increasingly stronger foes, and then face the legendary Pigeon God at the end... can you keep death far from your bird?
Inspired by games such as La Brute, Tamagochi and a little bit of Pokémon, Pigeon Ascent is our game for Ludum Dare #46. I admit that we strayed a bit from the theme, but since we had tons of fun developing this game, we're quite happy with the result :)

This game was made for the Ludum Dare #46. If you want, you can play the first uploaded version here!
Gameplay and controls:
The mouse is used for everything. The pigeons fight by themselves, but you can choose the attribute points and which enemies your pigeon will fight.

It's on github! This game's code up to version 1.5.5 is under the MIT License.
However, please note that past this version, we decided to not share the source code anymore since we plan to release a more complete and polished version of this game someday.
Therefore, the version currently published here on itch.io is not under the MIT License, and can not, for instance, be published on platforms such as Steam by anyone besides ourselves (Escada Games).

how to do the PI achievement?
This game is great, and I absolutely love playing it. There's so many cool evolutions, but I don't see any items in the shop I can buy that evolve my pigeon even more.

Uhh guys i found a bug. Fridge pigeon's Frost effect carries on through matches.
This lead to a fun scenario where my pigeon didnt attack a SINGLE time but still won :)

maybe you should add a list for all your discovered evolutions and list how many you have yet to find

The game sadly won't start in the browser
It just opens up a new tab that's i assume supposed to start the game but it does nothing
A fully fleshed-out version on steam would be awesome. This game is fantastic and I would love giving you money for a full version.
Having so much fun with this game! But I keep finding a bug in battles where neither pigeon attacks and idk why. But otherwise a really good time :)

I broke it, I played 3 battles in a row, won, and didn't spend my points. At the end of the 3rd battle, my points were 314165, ( Also, I named my bird Pigod)
Is it a easter egg?
Yes, it was! But not many people seem to have get the joke, so I'll remove it in another update.

I ONESHOT PIGOD WITH THAT EASTER EGG, PLEASE DONT REMOVE IT.
maybe just add 314157 instead, so you don't get 314161 when you are done fighting
Hm, that's a good idea. But to be honest, I think I'll swap this easter egg for another one, possibly still related to π. I'm still thinking about it though!

Edit: The True Ascension Achievement Is unobtainable(I've already reset save data and beat in normal form to make sure it is)

The first on seems to have been fixed on Godot's 4.3 version. It's on beta right now though, and when testing it, the web version didn't work because of a plugin I'm using. Once it's released and the plugin is working, I'll be sure to update the game, of course.
The second issue was happening because instead of checking if the player's pigeon was the common one, I was checking if it was equal to one random low tier pigeon. My bad!

That was an easter egg we added, I just fixed it. You should be able to play fairly now 👍

Hi, I enabled the fullscreen option here on itch, just click the icon on the bottom left. I'll look into fullscreen for the downloadable versionn in a next version.

I bought the game on steam but reading here I am shocked to find out it was not published by the original creator.
I enjoyed the game a lot and think its great! But I don't want my money to go to the wrong place.
Anyway to give you money?
And can I tell my indie dev friends about this? (i presume a publisher went and created a steam page with out your consent which means there is a way to pass through valve)

Thanks a lot for the interest, but right now I think paying for the game through itch.io is the only way to support us. That said, right now I don't think the game really has enough content to justify a price tag, so feel free to keep playing for free every now and then.
One day we do hope to release a commercial version though! Just not sure how long it will take haha

Hi! I'm sorry, but we weren't the ones that published the game on steam, and because of that we can't generate any keys for it.
Did they publish with your approval?
Actually no! I was looking at the analytics for the game and noticed a spike coming from Twitter. I found the tweet, and it was talking about the game being published on Steam, but we were not contacted or anything like that.
Since it caught us off-guard and, IMO, the game currently does not have enough content to justify having a price tag, we decided to ask Steam to remove it, which they did.
